People form initial perceptions about others through non-verbal cues to judge or form impressions about other, this includes facial expressions, bodily gestures, eye-contact, and attributing through bodily postures. People generally form first impressions of others in a social situation where they have to form a casual communication with them or have to achieve a common goal, in a social group etc.

Body language can be described as a form of communication in which the bodily gestures, postures, expressions and movements are interpreted as a nonverbal cue. The term body language has been replaced with the more formal term known as kinesics. This is a form of nonverbal communication used by person to transmit an information or a message. The perceiver on the basis of these nonverbal cues detects the conveyed message. People more commonly uses nodding, blinking, frowning, and other expressions as nonverbal cues to communicate with others, in situations where verbal cues are not as effective or possible.
