In a flowering plant, the inflorescence is a cluster of flowers on a branch or a system of branches. It is divided on the basis of time of its flowering as : determinate and indeterminate.
Cyme inflorescence is a flat-topped or determinate inflorescence in which the central flowers open first.
IAA phosphatidyl-ethanolamine-binding protein (PEBP) encode by tfl1 gene. It is expressed in a subset of cells of the SAM (three layers- epidermal, subepidermal and inner) at low level during vegetative stage . TFL1 expression increases after floral transition. TFL1 protein acts as a signal controlling inflorescence meristem identity so that it's mutation cause a conversion of the inflorescence meristems into floral meristems. This producing the abrupt termination of the main inflorescence stem. The lateral branches substitute by solitary axillary flowers in mutant plant.
