Frictional force is defined as the force of resistance offered by the surface which opposes the motion of the object. It acts in the direction opposite to the motion. Normal reaction is the force exerted by the surface on the object in perpendicular to the surface. The relation between friction force and the normal force is expressed as,

Here, friction force is f, normal force is N and the coefficient of friction is μ.

 

Friction in occurs in two different conditions which are static and dynamic conditions. The static friction on the object occurs when there is no displacement in the object with respect to time. Kinetic friction is considered when there is a change with respect to time.
