Expert Solution
Step 1

Given that-

Mass of bisphenol A= 25 kg = 25000 g

Mass of phosgene = 15 kg = 15000 g

Molar mass of bisohenol A=228 g/ mol

Molar mass of phosgene= 99 g/mol

First of all, moles of the components are obtained as-

Moles of bisphenol A=MassMolar mass=25000 g228 g/mol=109.65 molMoles of phosgene=MassMolar mass=15000 g99 g/mol=151.5 mol

In fromation of the polymer the reaction releases 2 mol of HCl as follows-

Bisphenol A+ phosgenePolycarbonate  + 2HCl

Hence, molecular mass of one unit of polycarbonate is-

molecular mass (polycarbonate unit)=228+99 -(2×36.5)= 254 g/mol
