Expert Solution
Step 1 Basic Concepts about Diode

A diode is a two-terminal PN junction device in which one terminal is known as anode (positive terminal) and other terminal is known as cathode (negative terminal).

  • A diode is turned on when a forward voltage or a voltage greater than the forward voltage is applied across it. Generally, for silicon diodes this forward voltage is 0.7 V and for a germanium diode, it is 0.3 V.
  • When a negative voltage is applied across the diode, it remains turned off and does not allow any current to pass through it.
