Step 1
What is Galvanic Corrosion of Aluminium?
Galvanic Corrosion is the corrosion induced when two different materials are coupled in corrosive electrolyte.
- When galvanic couples forms , one of the metals in the couple becomes the anode and corrodes faster than it would all by itself , while the other becomes cathode and corrodes slower than it would alone.
- Galvanic Corrosion occurs when two unlike metals are in close enough proximity to each other that they form galvanic cell .
- Actually electrons flow anode to cathode and a galvanic cell is set up.
- Which results anode undergoes oxidation and forms corresponding ions and passes into solution and that's why metal gets corroded.
- Aluminium is in anodic in nature means it protects steel from rusting, so it get self corroded
