Learning objective 1:I am able to determine whether an algebraic expression is a normal /
polynomial.
A monomial is an algebraic expression with only one term which can be
(i) a number,
(ii) a varible with positive integral index,
(iii) the product of a number and one or more variables, each with a positive integral index.
Notice : a number can be positive or negative.
For example : (a) 2y+5z - yz is a polynomial. It contains three terms: 2y, 5z and - yz.
2y +5z - yz
(b) 3x -x+ 4y –7 is a polynomial. It contains four terms: 3x ,x,4y and - 7.
3x +x +4y -7
Write down the number of term of the following polynomials.
