The use of conventional highway materials faces challenges such as resource depletion and  environmental problems associated with their usage among other concerns.This calls for  research and development of other alternative materials for highway construction. You are required to identify and discuss other alternative materials that could be used in  highway construction. These could be materials that are totally new and you are making a  proposal for its use or materials that are still under research or those that have been tested on  a small scale (trial sections) and so on. Basically, you are not limited. Your discussion may include but not limited to: source of the materials, properties, usage and  application in highway construction, any foreseen pros and cons, previous results if already  tested, your own analysis/viewsetc.
