  • Primary alcohol (hydroxyl group attached to 1⁰ carbon ) oxidizes into aldehyde. Aldehyde can undergo further oxidation if oxidizing agent is strong(eg.-potassium dicromate, potassium permanent etc.) If we want aldehyde product then reagent like pyridinium chlorocromate (PCC) or anhydrous CrO3 are used. 
  • Secondary alcohols forms ketone upon oxidation.  
  • Tertiary alcohols don't undergo oxidation generally .For their oxidation , very strong oxidizing agent and and  higher temperature is required. In this case ,we get mixture of carboxylic acids having lesser carbons then reactants. Chemistry homework question answer, step 1, image 1
