Scenario 1 – applies to the measurement task and the application of
measurement principles questions in CMA1
You are the consultant Quantity Surveyor (QS) working for a leading provider of sustainable design
and construction solutions and you have been assigned to work with an inexperienced client on a
large construction project. The traditionally procured project is currently at the Technical Design
Stage (RIBA 2020) and your manager has asked you to perform the following tasks.
The PDF drawings listed below are available on the VLE in Week 8: Assignment 1 preparation and
are included to develop measurement skills only.
• D10104 Ground floor plan 2024
• D10115 Section AA 2024.
Following traditional measurement conventions and using a Standard Method of Measurement
(SMM), take off quantities for selected superstructure items.
• External cavity wall: Do not Measure the Porch
o The external half brick outer skin
o Forming 100mm cavity and 50mm cavity insulation
o Block wall inner skin.
• 100mm block wall Internal partition. Dining room and living room. Do not measure the
pantry
• Plasterboard and Painting internal finishes to Porch Ceiling.
Note: Ignore all deductions as this will be measured at a later stage
