15)   Consider this chemical eqn:              CuCl2+4KI => CuI+4KCl+I2

The above rxn may be classified as:

(a) Combination                         (b) Oxidation-reduction

(c) Single displacement              (d) Decomposition

Expert Solution
Step 1 : Introduction

There are following reaction,

◆ X +  Y   ---->   XY

Here two molecules combine to form a single molecule therefore it is a Combination reaction

◆ XY --------> X + Y

Here, one molecule give rise to two new molecules therefore this reaction is Decomposition reaction.

◆ X + YZ ------> Y + XZ

Here the highly reactive element X replaced the less reactive Y from the compound YZ therefore it is known as Single Displacement Reaction.

◆ Oxidation- Reduction reactions are known as Redox Reactions. Those reactions in which the oxidation (Addition of Oxygen or Removal of hydrogen or increase in oxidation state) and Reduction (Removal of Oxygen or Addition of Hydrogen or decrease in oxidation state) reactions takes place simultaneously.
