Expert Solution
Step 1

a) Number of Comic Books in the box :

       Let the Price of per comic book be x .

       Cost of Large Box   = $300

       No of Boxes  = 300 / x

       Number of Comic books gave to Brother = 15

       Balance number of books = (300/x   -  15) books

       Sales Value  (300/x- 15) books  =  $330

       Profit on sale of Each book = 1.5$

       Sales Price of each book = x+1.5

       From the Above data following Equation is derived:

             =    Balance no of Books * Sales Price per book = $330

              => (300/x   - 15) * (x+1.5)  = 330

            =>  15x2 +52.5x - 450 = 0  (ax2 + bx + c ) ( (-b ± b2 - 4ac ) /2a )

            =>   x = -7.5 , 4 (discard negative value)

             => Price of each book  = $4

    Number of Comic Books in the box = 300/ 4 = 75 Books
