10. A plane seismic wave travels vertically downwards at a velocity of 4800 m s¹ through a salt layer with density 2100 kg m-³. The wave is incident upon the top surface of a sandstone layer with density 2400 kg m-³. The phase of the reflected wave is changed by 180° and the reflected amplitude is 2% of the incident ampli- tude. What is the seismic velocity of the sandstone?

Follow-up Question

Hi thanks for your step-by -step solution however i was wondering what the 180 deg phase change implied and i don't see it mentioned here in the solution. Does this means the reflected wave is rotated 180 deg? Also is Sandstone layer not the top most layer and in that case would it not assume z1 instead of z2?

Thank you!
