Polarity and turn ratio of a single phase transformer.
1.2. OBJECTIVE:
To verification (demonstration) of the transformation ratio (turn ratio) or polarity of a
single phase transformer.
1.10. QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION:
1. A transformer is rated at 440/115 V and volt-ampere at 50HZ. State which of the windings
must be made with thicker conductor?
2. A transformer is rated at 440/115 V and 1.2KVA at 50HZ. The 115V winding rated of the
transformer is connected to a resistor 115Oresistance. What will be the current flowing
through this resistance?
3. A transformer has its primary winding made of two sections each has 1000 turns and
secondary winding has 500 turns as shown in Figure bellow. If 50 V secondary output is to be
obtained, what must be the voltage applied to the primary winding in the following cases
neglecting saturation and leakage.
Case (1) voltage applied between P, and P, with Pz and P3 joined together.
Case (2) voltage applied between P and P2 with P3 and P4 open and isolated.
Case (3) voltage applied between P, and P, with Pg connected to P, and P, connected to Pa.
