Base - the whole where the percentage is taken. It is obtained by dividing the
Percentage by the Rate.
Formula:
B PIR
Base = Percentage/Rate
Rate - the value obtained from the quotient of Percentage and Base commonly
expressed in percent
Formula:
R= P/B
Rate = Percentage/Rate
Percentage
To solve percentage problems, when the rate is express in percent, convert
percent to decimal then multiply it to the base. When the rate is expressed in fraction,
convert fraction to decimal and then multiply it to the base,
Example:
1. 50% of 50 is how much?
Given R=50%
Formula P =BxR
P= (50%) x (50)
= (.50) x (50)
P= 25
B-50
P=?
Therefore 50% of 50 is = 25
2. What is % of 100?
Given R= % B= 100
P?
Formula P=BxR
P= (1/4) x (100)
= (0.25) x (100)
P= 25
Therefore1/4 of 100 is = 25
3. How much is 100% of 500?
Given R= 100%
B = 500
Formula P=BxR
P= (100%) x (500)
= (1) x (500)
P= 500
P=?
Theretore 100% of 500 is = 500
4. How many 1.5% of 60?
Given R= 1.5%
B= 60
P=?
Formula PBXR
P= (1.5%) x (60)
= (0.015) x (60)
P-0.9
Therefore 1.5% of 60 is = 0.9

Rate Problems
This lesson will help yau find the value of (R) Rate in percentage problems and,
solve problem involving rate.
Rate problem uses the equation or formula R= P/B where the value of R is in
percent form.
Example:
1. What percent of 50 is 107
Given B = 50
Formula R = P/B
R= 10/50
=0.2
P= 10
R=?
Since 0.2 is in decimal, but the question asked how many percent, therefore convert
0.2 into percent by moving the decimal point two places to the right and write percent
symbol ater the number.
Therefore, the answer to the problem is 20%, and therefore 10 is 20% of 50 or 20% of
50 is 10
2. One hundred is what percent of 100?
Given B= 100
P= 100
R=?
Formuia R = P/B
R. 100/100
= 1
Convert 1 to percent by moving the decimal point two places going to the right,
therefore the final answer is 100%
3. What part of B0 is 100?
Given B- 80
P= 100
R=?
Formula R= P/B
R= 80/100
= 1.25
Convert 1.25 to percent by moving the decimal point two places going to the right,
therefore the final answer is 125%
4. What part of 100 is 80?
Given B= 100
Formula R = P/B
R= 100/BO
= 0.08
P= 80
R=?
Convert 0.08 to parcent by moving the decimal point two places going to the right,
therefore the final answer is 8%
5. Seven is what part of 200?
Given B= 7
Formula R = P/B
R= 7/20
= 0.
Convert 0.035 to percent by moving the decimal point two places goi.
P= 200
R=?
32/41
therefore the final answer is 3.5%
