The larger the pore space or pore size is, the greater will be the infiltration rate which is why sandy soils will have high infiltration rates because pore sizes are larger and there are no finer materials to block the pores in sandy soil. The clayey soil has very little pore space and feels smooth without much roughness.
As the texture becomes finer, or as silt plus clay size material increases, the total pore space increases together with the range and diversity of pore sizes and shapes which directly influence the pore size distribution
