Expert Solution
Step 1

Solution:- Given:- Freezing point of aqueous solution containing non-electrolyte = -9.0°C.

As, we know Freezing point of water (Tf pure solvent) = 0°C.

(a) Freezing point of solution is given by following equation:-

Tf sol = Tf pure solvent - ∆T

Here, Tf sol => Freezing temperature of solution

Tf pure solvent => Freezing temperature of pure solvent & here water is solvent because it is given that solution is aqueous.

∆Tf = Depression in freezing point.

Therefore, -9.0 °C = 0.0 °C + ∆Tf

∆Tf = 9.0 °C.

9.0°C is the depression in freezing point.
