a. Put 1 tsp of barium chloride in a clear dry watch glass. Gently add 2 to 3
drops of concentrated hydrochloric acid.
b.
Heat a piece of nichrome wire over an alcohol lamp until the flame is no
longer colored.
c. Dip the nichrome wire in the mixture containing barium chloride.
d.
Hold the wire at the edge of the flame.
e.
Record the color emitted after a few minutes.
f. Clean the nichrome wire, repeat steps a-e, using calcium chloride, copper (II)
sulfate, potassium chloride, and sodium chloride, respectively.
2. Test for Cu+2, Fe +3, Pb+2, Zn +2
a. Place 2 mL solution of copper (II) sulfate, iron (III) chloride, lead nitrate, zinc
sulfate, and iron (II) sulfate in separate test tubes.
b. Add 4 to 5 drops sodium hydroxide solution to each solution. Observe.
c. Repeat step a.
d. Add 4 to 5 drops ammonia solution to each solution. Observe.
