1. A reaction obeys the following rate law: Rate=k[A][B]. (a) i) If [A] changes, will the rate change? If so how? ii) Will the rate constant xchange? Explain why or why not. (b) What are the reaction orders for A and B? What is the overall reaction order? (c) What are the units of the rate constant?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Rate = K[A][B]2

a) i) Since the rate expression is given dependent on concentration of A and square of concentration of B.

Hence if concentration of A changes the rate will change.

And since that rate is directly proportional to the concentration of A so we can say that the rate will double when the concentration of A is doubled and will be halved if concentration of A is halved.

ii) Since the rate constant (k) only depends on the temperature of the reaction.

Hence until or unless the temperature of the reaction changes, the rate constant will remain constant irrespective of the concentration of A or B.
