Expert Solution
Step 1

If a solid or liquid experiences a small temperature change, its linear dimensions will change in proportional to the temperature change. The change L of a solid or liquid is:

L = LαT

Where α is the material's coefficient of linear expansion

For glass, α = 9×10-6/C°

At 20°C the length is L = 100 cm

T = 80°C - 20°C

T = 60°C

Substituting in formula

L = 100cm× 9×10-6 1C°×60C°L = 1m× 9×60×10-6L = 540×10-6 m
