Author Bio and Introduction

Jon Krakauer was born in Massachusetts, but soon his family moved to Oregon. When he was merely eight years old, his father introduced him to mountain climbing. After graduating from Hampshire College in 1976, he focused on mountain climbing while doing odd jobs. In 1995, Krakauer was one of the two survivors in a six-person team which climbed Mt. Everest. He wrote about this experience in the book titled Into Thin Air (1997), which was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. He is a journalist whose non-fiction work has been widely published on well reputed platforms. Into the Wild is an expanded version of a long form essay he wrote about Chris McCandless’ death for Outside magazine in 1992.
