Lab Work #6 – System Overview III: Skin, Blood, and Viruses (50 pts.)
Name:
Name of Partner: NOTE: the pictures on agglutination and plates may be the same for both partners. All other work should be individually created.
1.
Show an image of the “agglutination” simulation that you performed.

ANSWER: 2.
Did the A sample or B sample show a result? What does that indicate about the possible blood
type for the tested sample (the +/- Rh factor is being ignored here)?
(__/3

ANSWER: 3.
What will be a hypothesis (to you) about what the results of the “thumb stamping” will be? This question should be performed in lab after the thumb stamping procedure and you and your partner may have a similar thought process here.
(__/3 pts)
ANSWER: 4.
Using the data you collected from your WBC slide on the number of leukocytes and the types, you need to decide to perform (based on the data) a statistical test to determine if the differential cell count based on the slide shows the patient as ill as the data shown in Table 4 or not.
4A. What test are you performing?

ANSWER:
ANOVA: single factor and two-factor
ANOVA is challenging. In the Reading in this week, there are a few data sets and examples shown for how to perform an ANOVA in R studio. Excel can only do a single factor and we ARE NOT USING Excel.
You will replicate the single factor ANOVA and the two factor ANOVA (‘blocking’ as a factor) in R. THEN you will use the EKG data (p, qrs, t) from last week to perform a two-factor ANOVA.
8. Download the “p-qrs-anova-example 2.0” file that is found at the bottom of the R-Studio – ANOVA webpage in Lab 6. There are specific instructions for how to use R to conduct ANOVAs. Please read all of this information before
running your test. We are conducting a single-factor ANOVA
, so do not do worry about the blocking part for now.
You do need to modify/hack the script
. When you copy the script, be sure to copy it from the ‘raw text in GitHub’.
After you paste the script into R, edit where it says
“color” to “wave”. Execute your script to conduct an ANOVA. Copy and paste your R-studio readout.
Version Beta
Is there a difference between ‘wave’ (i.e., between parts of the heart beat ‘wave’’ the p and qrs)?
(__/7
pts)
ANSWER: 9. Use RStudio and the “p-qrs-anova-example 2.0” file on Brightspace (at the bottom of the ANOVA R-
studio content page) to perform a two-factor ANOVA
to test for differences among mean p, qrs, and t wave responses between
groups (i.e., blocking). In this case, you will be giving a little more in your answer,
You may need to refer to the webpages in Lab 6 discussing ANOVA before trying this. Sections 3.4 and 3.5 (the second and third ANOVA webpages) have specific instructions on how to do this. The data are blocked for you already in the file. Each letter corresponds to values from a particular group.
In your answer, paste in the script that you used to run the test and include the ANOVA table from the output. You will need to modify the script from Brightspace to run the data file. Upload the CSV file that you used in your analysis to the assignment folder so that your TA can check that you used the correct format and grouping variables if necessary. Relate your results to the null hypotheses. What do these results actually tell you and also as compared to #8 results?
(_/8 pts)
ANSWER: 10. Use RStudio and the EKG class data set
linked from Brightspace (
from the class data page Electrocardiogram content page; from last week
) to perform a two-factor ANOVA to test for differences among mean p, qrs, and t wave responses between groups. Refer to the ANOVA webpages in Lab 6 before trying this. Sections 3.4 an 3.5 (two of the ANOVA webpages) have specific instructions on how to do this. Use this script
. Add a new column in your CSV so that you can block the values by group.
NOTE:
Do not use a number as the grouping variable for the block effect since that will cause undesirable effects in R. After you paste the script into R, you will have to hack (change) the script where it says “color” to “wave”. Execute your script to conduct an ANOVA. In your answer below, paste in the script that you used to run the test and include the ANOVA table from the output. Upload the CSV file that you used in your analysis to the assignment folder so that your TA can check that you used the correct format and grouping variables if necessary. Realize, question #8 is the
same premise as this one….so if you know you figured out how to do #9, this should be little difficulty.
Relate your results to the null hypotheses. What do these results actually tell you? (8 pts)
Answer:
BE SURE TO READ NEXT WEEK’S LAB prior to coming to lab and to sometime between this lab next week’s lab to log into Brightspace to do your Reading Assessment Questions. Five multiple choice questions, randomly selected from a large question bank.

iris is a built-in R data set (data frame). This data set contains gives the measurements in centimeters of the variables sepal length and width and petal length and width, respectively, for 50 flowers from each of 3 species of iris. The species are Iris setosa, versicolor, and virginica. We are interested in some descriptive statistics related to the Sepal.Width column of the data frame. PART I: For this part, we will divide the data set into two groups: those who have infection and those who do not. Consider only those who have an infection.1. For these subjects only, construct a stemplot for the variable “heart rate”. (We will be making this into a back-to-back stemplot later, so leave room on the left side.)2. Discuss the shape of your stemplot. Is it symmetric? Positively skewed? Negatively skewed? None of these? Are there any outliers?3. How would you describe the center and the spread of this distribution?4. Find the five-number summary.5. Construct a box plot.

Please show me your solutions and interpretations. Show the completehypothesis-testing procedure.A manufacturing company produces bearings. One line of bearings is specified to be 1.64 centimeters (cm) in diameter. A major customer requires that the variance of the bearings be no more than 0.001 cm2. The producer is required to test the bearings before they are shipped, and so the diameters of 16 bearings are measured with a precise instrument, resulting in the following values:1.69 1.62 1.63 1.70 1.66 1.63 1.65 1.71 1.64 1.69 1.57 1.64 1.59 1.66 1.63 1.65Assume bearing diameters are normally distributed. Use the data and α = 0.025 to test the data to determine whether the population of these bearings is to be rejected because of too high variance.
