Discussion Board Replies 1 Reply D2.1 and D2.2 Summarize the students findings and indicate areas of agreement, disagreement, and improvement. Scholarly citations 250 words Julius, Summary The author demonstrates a clear understanding of the material through their discussion and analysis of the presented questions. First, the results of the effects of three scores with regard to the education level of the student’s father were reviewed to determine that two out of the three dependent variables had statistically significant differences. It was also highlighted that the amount of variance can be used to measure the differences among group means when three or more groups are present in the study ( Morgan, Leech, Gloeckner, Barrett, 2020). Secondly, the author reviews which pairs of means were significantly different by reviewing Outputs 9.7 a and b. It was revealed that for Output 9.7 a only students whose fathers had an education level of high school or lower with those whose fathers had a bachelor’s degree or higher were significantly different and for Output 9.7 b both the grades of students whose fathers were high school grads or less with those whose fathers had some college and those whose fathers were high school grads or less with those whose father had a bachelor’s degree or higher were statistically significant. Thirdly, the meaning of sig. values for math achievement and competence were interpreted before comparing Outputs 9.6 and 9.8 to determine key differences and similarities. Lastly, in reviewing Output 9.9 more insight was given in determining if the interaction is significant, interpreting the eta squared, and what the “effect” truly signifies. Critique When reviewing the authors' discussion for areas of agreement, each question has a well-constructed and thoughtful response. One area that could have benefitted from additional information is the first question. Although each item is addressed, some clarity is lost in terms of how the author determined if there were statistically significant differences for each of the variables. Explaining that if the p-value is less than the preset alpha level then it can be determined that the results are statistically significant such as p < .05 reflecting a statistically significant difference and p > .05 reflecting no statistically significant difference ( Demirbuğa, Dayan & Balkaya, 2023). Providing this additional statement for clarity could give the reader more insight into the discussion.
