(2 pt.) One or more offenses are committed by the same offender or group of offenders at the same time and location. 2. Incident (3 pt.) One or more offenses committed by the same offender, or group of offenders acting in concert, at the same time and place. NOTE: An incident may consist of one offense or multiple offenses. Separation of Time and Place (2 pt.) 3. The time interval between the offenses and the space between the locations where they occurred were insignificant. The concept of Separation of Time and Place means that normally, the offense must have occurred during an unbroken time and at the same or adjoining place. 4. Acting in Concert (2 pt.) The offenders actually collaborate or cooperate in the commission of a crime(s). If the offenders did not act in concert, then there is more than one incident involved. 5. What are the top 3 most notable advantages of using NIBRS data over the old Summary Reporting System (SRS)? (3 pts). Detailed Information, Enhanced Crime Analysis, and Greater accuracy. 6. How many Group A offenses are there? How many Group B offenses are there? What other information does NIBRS provide? (3 pts) In group A there are 71 offenses and in group B there are 10 offenses. It also provides victim characteristics, demographics, etc.
7. What else did you learn from your readings that you found interesting about NIBRS? (5 pts) Part 2. The goal of this exercise is to explore crime in the US using Crime Data Explorer (posted on Blackboard) website. In this exercise, we will explore general trends about crime, how different demographic groups are affected by crime and relationships between victims and offenders (30 pts). Pull all the population rates in the US for each violent crime category (i.e., homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault) and each property crime category (i.e, arson, burglary, larceny-theft, motor-vehicle theft) rates from 2000-2020.
