Alexis McChorn Community College of Denver Principals of Supervision Dr. William Guthrie Case Study #1 October 18 th , 2023 Setting goals and working towards succeeding them, is something that Everett had plenty of knowledge on. Trying to transform a public transit system to electric buses is not an easy or inexpensive job but Everett did just that. The city of Everett had a primary purpose of improving the air quality in their city, reduce emissions, and become a more environmentally sustainable city. The goals that this city have set for themselves will not be hard at all to accomplish, because the city has already taken the initiative to purchase nine electric buses. When speaking about the changes that the electric buses will make within the Everett environment, the risk and trainings for the drivers and maintenance workers must be just as important. The drivers need extensive trainings on how to operate the new electric buses, and just In case there is an issue while in transit, they should be able to fix the problem. The maintenance workers need extensive trainings on how to replace parts, when to replace parts, and even knowing the signs of bus failure. With the help of the supervisors making sure that everyone is up to date on their trainings and are actively participating in them, the city of Everitt will continue to have a productive future in the transportation department. With all the extra trainings and monitoring, the city budget planners will have a lot to consider also. As the number of electric buses increases, there will need to be changes surrounding fare to equal out the cost of the new buses. The budget is the financial plan for the city of Everett, and it details planned operating and capital expenditures. The city budget planners need to include funding for potential issues that may arise.

There are instances in where things happen and you couldn’t have even predicted that it would go that way, but that is what a contingency is. As a transportation company just beginning to introduce electric buses there should be contingencies that Everett’s transportation department must prepare for. For instance, there needs to be strict scheduling in place, especially since it is reported that the buses can only go a certain number of miles before having to be charged. Potential tech issues which may result in extra training for the maintenance also need to be noted. The city of Everett has a really good plan to include the electric busses into their fleet, and with the productive planning and training the city will reach their goals.
