N A R R A T I V E On July 3, 2015, two fellow officers and I were dispatched to 2200 Brasco Lane, Newport, Barnett 25460. On arrival, we were met by the victim, Julie Pinetti, at the security desk. She had a torn blouse, black right eye, blood coming from her lip and nose, and she had red marks on her neck. I requested that an ambulance meet me at the security office. As we were waiting for Emt to arrive, Ms. Pinetti invited us back to the apartment, where her live-in boyfriend (David Chambers) who is responsible for her injuries, is located. We asked for permission to enter and searched the residence, she replies ‘Yes its building 9, 1 st floor apartment 1B”. While officer Lee and Jones go search the apartment, Julie and I waited at the security office. At 1840 Barnett State Ambulance arrived and Emt Thomas Smith treated her wounds. While the victim got treated officer Lee radioed the apartment was “all clear”. Penetti refused to go to the hospital, so the Emt released her. I let her know that no one was found in the apartment and followed her back to her home. Peinetti stated that D.Chambers may have gone to his brother’s house John Chambers, but she didn’t recall the address. During my interview with Julie Penetti, she stated that D. Chambers beat her this evening after what started as an argument about who was calling his cell phone. She saw an unknown number with a 252area code that called his phone out all times of night, but he told her they had the wrong number on various occasions. Penetti said she pressed him about the number because she said she felt he was cheating on her. That’s when he snapped, she said. She said he grabbed her by the hair, dragged her down the hallway towards the living room and threw her on the coffee table. He then pinned her to the floor, punched her in the face, grabbed her throat and began to squeeze. She stated she was scared for her life and thought he was going to kill her. She grabbed a large piece of glass off the floor that broke from the coffee table and slashed him across the face. She stated from that point she was able to escape and run to the security office. Ms. Penetti stated that she and David Chambers have a history of altercations where the police have been called, but this time she thought he would be back to kill her. I stepped outside to confirm with dispatch that Mr. Chambers had a violent past and learn that he had several arrests for domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon, animal cruelty, multiple drug offenses (cocaine possessions, marijuana possession, methamphetamine possession, intent to distribute), and attempted murder. There is a Domestic Violence Injunction with Penetti on file that was issued two weeks ago. I requested the address of John Chambers and learned that he is armed with a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson and one prior arrest for DUI. He resides at 12011 Main Street Barnett State. I stepped back into the apartment to speak with Penetti about the information I just found out and she explained the DVRO is due an incident two weeks ago when D. Chambers slapped her. I asked if D.Chambers was intoxicated with either drugs or alcohol during their altercation, she replied, “Yes.” I explained that I wanted to complete a detailed search of the apartment and Penetti agreed. Starting from the front I spotted a few blood drops on the floor tile leading a trail of blood to the living room. In the living room there was a smashed wooden coffee table, and glass shards all over the floor near other furniture. Also, there was a large piece of glass with a massive amount of blood lying on the floor next to the couch on the south wall. Exiting the living room walking towards the bedroom there were clumps of long blonde hair on the floor that matched Penetti’s story of being dragged down the hallway. Entering the room, I could see beer bottles under the bed and a white powdery substance on the nightstand. I asked Julie if she knew what the white powdery substance was on the nightstand, and she stated, “that it’s probably his coke”. I asked if there was any more in the home, she said he kept some in a shoebox under the bed. I went back to the bedroom and found a white New Balance box with ten small baggies of white powdery substance and eight bags of green leafy substance. Penetti told me that none of the drugs belong to her. In the bathroom I found wet blood all over the floor Penetti said that the blood belonged to D. Chambers. I called for the Crime Scene Unit to conduct a detailed search and collect evidence from the apartment, and they arrived at 2030. Officer Lee and I leave the apartment.
