Benchmark- Social Problem Final Essay When a dominant group encounters a social circumstance that they see as posing a challenge to existing norms and values, this may have a profound influence on a considerable segment of society, resulting in the creation of collective reactions and social crises (Macionis, 2019). Present-day society is faced with a plethora of urgent concerns, encompassing but not restricted to substance addiction, maltreatment of minors, trafficking of individuals, impoverishment, and other manifestations of societal disparities. According to a recent report by ReliefWeb, the prevalence of drug usage exceeds 26% among the population. The problem of drug usage has a substantial impact on several aspects of society (ReliefWeb, 2022). The present investigation aims to examine the correlation between drug misuse and theoretical frameworks, while also investigating possible strategies for deterring people from engaging in such behavior. During the course, a noteworthy finding that has garnered my attention is the connection between drug consumption and the manifestation of social deviance, especially in reference to its effects on marginalized individuals. The association has noteworthy ramifications and justifies further investigation. Macionis defines social deviance as the deliberate violation of cultural norms, whether in formal or informal contexts (Macionis, 2019). The idea of social deviance comprises a wide range of behaviors that vary from established society standards. These behaviors include, but are not limited to, crimes such as rape, theft, murder, and even violence within the context of drug misuse. Substance use disorder, sometimes referred to as addiction, is a mental ailment defined by the enduring and compulsive use of drugs, notwithstanding adverse outcomes, as stated by the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research (Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, 2022). The definition of drug usage as a kind of social deviance raises the issue of its justification. There is a prevailing deficiency in persons'

understanding of medicines; yet, it is important to acknowledge that medications have the capacity to have significant impacts on humans, frequently beyond conventional assumptions. Various variables contribute to the possible causes of harm to persons, including social, physical, and emotional components. The usage of drugs is linked to deleterious behavioral patterns that have a substantial influence on an individual's life. Do you now possess an understanding of the significance of social deviance within the framework of drug abuse? Based on the aforementioned facts, there is a specific phrase that encompasses the fundamental nature of the issue, and that term is "difficulty." The kind of wrongdoing to which I am referring pertains to the unauthorized purchase of cash or, in certain instances, more valuable assets such as a motor vehicle. The theoretical framework that exhibits the highest degree of correspondence with drug usage is the interaction theory. The Interactionist or Interaction Theory is a social cognition theory that focuses on the comprehension of individuals via the systematic observation and study of their physical actions and activities (Team, 2023). Symbolic interaction theory serves as a theoretical framework for elucidating the underlying causes and origins of drug addiction. Various interactionist concepts may be used to understand drug abuse. My understanding of this theoretical framework has been enhanced by its examination of the possible impact of people' social connections on their behavior, especially in the context of this particular societal problem. The efficacy of strategies aimed at reducing the incidence of drug usage is constrained by a limited range of available possibilities. Furthermore, individuals afflicted with drug use disorder have the option to use the therapies that are already accessible. It is well recognized that these approaches do not provide a completely reliable solution for avoiding relapse in those grappling with drug usage. Nevertheless, the strategy of "trial and observation" is often used.

Various possible solutions include counseling, rehabilitation programs, and engagement in novel activities as a strategy to redirect focus away from drug usage. Nevertheless, it is crucial for an individual to possess intrinsic drive, develop explicit goals, and maintain unshakable commitment in order to address drug dependence and endeavor towards personal growth. The phenomenon of drug usage is a pervasive concern throughout society, which may be analyzed and understood through the lens of the theoretical framework of interactionism. There are possible solutions for those who exhibit a proactive inclination towards engaging in self- improvement endeavors. As often urged, it is essential to abstain from participating in the use of illicit substances.
