Hello Walter, Thank you for your feedback and the additional information provided regarding the LGBTQ community and their risk in sex trafficking/human trafficking. I was surprised to see the data surrounding this issue and the higher risk that is placed on children in this community. Approximately 10 million, or 4.1%, of U.S. adults identify as a member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community (Boswell, Temples, & Wright, 2019). As per Gardner, (2022), LGBTQ+ youth are 13 times more likely to experience homelessness than their straight peers and that they are overrepresented among homeless youth populations, accounting for up to 40% in North America. Discrimination plays a role in the inflated numbers as this community’s vulnerability increases with lack of resources such as the lack of shelters that will accept men or transgender women. I agree with the reference that you provided, we as providers lack resources, education, and policies (Boswell, Temples, & Wright, 2019) that are required to protect those at an increased risk of being exploited and we should advocate for this group to ensure their safety.
