Name: Jessie Nguyen POSC 450 February 18, 2024 Som Chounlamountry Journal Entry #1 Learning Objective In my point of view, Service Learning activities are always meaningful and helpful, especially for my future career. My career goal is to become a dentist, so every Volunteer, or Service Learning opportunity is valuable for both my personal growth and my resume. I feel fortune in a position where I have access to everything I need, such as education, food, and other resources. Out there, in the world, some people have to face many difficulties about their lives, and I want to be a little part that I can help them out. As a student, I'm not wealthy, sometimes I have struggling about some difficulties in life. However, since I'm still very young, I want to use my time, my heart, my passion to express it to people who cannot do it by doing Volunteer, and Service Learning activities. I joined this session two weeks late, since I'm in the class, I have read through the syllabus, and noticed that Service Learning is a component of my grade, I'm genuinely happy about that because it not only makes it easier to get a good grade but is also a profoundly meaningful activity that I can engage in so it is a great opportunity, so why not take advantage of it? I have found a Service about Long Beach community Table, where I can broaden my perspective to help people, and improve my relationship with others also my communication skills, and teamwork skills. I appreciate all opportunities come to my life even if it's easy or challenges, I believe I can accomplish it in a very great way. Service objectives In the course I'm taking (POSC 450: Comparative Political Movements), understanding and articulating the roles of government is crucial. This course provides an excellent opportunity to apply my knowledge and experience to real-life situations, serving as a chance to contribute to society by using my expertise. The more hours I dedicate to these activities, the better my understanding will be of how the government, a microcosm, effectively sustains a community. Engaging in service learning can also help me develop a sense of responsibility for my actions. I aspire to assist as many people as possible because I don't want to regret my actions when I look back on my youth in the future. Service Outcome and Indicators I have actively participated in Volunteer, and Service Learning since I was in Viet Nam. My mom, who is a teacher, consistently organizes a Service Learning initiatives each semester, so I have been involved in these projects since I was 12 until now. Similarity, for the current Service Learning opportunity, I am contributing to the Long Beach Community Table, where my involvement includes tasks such as food distribution and participating in city gardening projects. The first significant outcome pertains to food distribution. This endeavor plats a crucial role in

ensuring that more individuals have access to meals, especially those facing financial difficulties and homelessness. By addressing these needs, the initiative aims to reduce hunger, and contribute to a reduce in crime rate around the city also every place in the world. The second outcome is associated with gardening efforts, it can be for food. This activity serves as a complementary aspect to their food distribution service. Through the cultivation and harvesting of organic produce from private properties, the organization can establish a sustainable supply chain, lessening dependence on external sources for their distribution efforts.
