Running Head: Resiliency Theory 2 Identify the key constructs of the resiliency theory. Various scientific research have different definitions and understandings of the word resilience. The controversies resonating around the definition and meaning of the word resilience triggered the development of the resiliency theory. Based on Carlson et al. (2012), the resiliency theory model attempts to understand resilience concerning various protective factors. For instance, the representation tries to dissect the nature and meaning of resilience based on factors such as the environment, community, or the school which are considered the building blocks for the theory. The resilience theory argues that it is no the adversity’s nature that is most significant, but how an individual deals with it. It is generally a conceptual framework that mainly aims at understanding how people can bounce back in life after experiencing hostile situations or conditions, in a strength-concentrated tactic. When individuals encounter frustrations, misfortunes, or adversities, resilience assists them bounce back. It aids them recover, survive as well as thrive in the wake and face of challenges ( Wang, 2015). Discuss how this theory is different from other theories in human services It is important to note that resilience isn’t a theory of personality but rather a vibrant process for the systems to adjust to the hardships and intimidations of life. Van Bred (2018) documents that unlike other additional theories in human services profession, the resilience theory isn’t of the set of firm-minded principles or even hypotheses, but rather a changing and evolving model that keeps on developing throughout the years as the scholars/researchers continue to learn throughout their analysis and studies. The theory has been criticized because
Running Head: Resiliency Theory 3 the framework is often ambiguous and unlike theories such as Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs or Erikson’s developmental theory that tend to promote prevention, the resilience theory involves only responding (Van Breda, 2018). Human service theories are designed in ways that help individuals cope with their various challenges. According to Abend (2008), a theory is only considered useful if its hypothesis is top-notch and it is easily applicable to client’s problems whether individually or as a family. However unlike most human service theories, research as proven that it is difficult to apply the theories and principles of the theory in direct practice, notably in the areas of assessments. This complexity is, perhaps, as a result of the theory’s perspectival nature as well as the pressing pain and vulnerabilities of most clients. Given the chance to no longer refer to the resiliency theory as a theory, what would you call it and why? Be creative. As mentioned earlier on resilience theory is a conceptual model that attempts to explain why and how individuals bounce back in life even after miserably failing or when faced with adverse situations. It is evident, as much research has posited that the resilience theory is to a huge extent a mechanism of coping rather a theory. If given a chance to rename this theory, I would refer to it as persistent determination. Persistence refers to the act of continuing in a course of action or an opinion in spite of oppositions or difficulty. In other word it’s the continuation of various actions around that purpose. Determination on the other hand, refers to the quality of being determined; basically it is a firmness of purpose. When the two terms are joined, they kind of bring out the true definition of resilience- which is basically the ability of

The two terms are suitable as they tend to contribute to an individual’s success in an action. References Wang, J. L., Zhang, D. J., & Zimmerman, M. A. (2015).
