Anna Price SWK4430 May 12, 2024 Kinsey Self Reflection – Policy’s Impact on YOU Social Policy has effects on every single human being. The two biggest social polices that impacted me and my life were the 1965 Higher Education Act as well as Medicaid. United States President Lynden. B Johnson signed and passed both of these policies into a law. Under the 1965 Higher Education Act, financial support options and financing became available to students and families to use for post-secondary education. Under Medicaid, health insurance is provided to low-income families or individuals. To be eligible for Alabama Medicaid, you must be a legal resident of the United States who is in need of healthcare or insurance assistance due to low income or no income. The 1965 Higher Education Acts effects me because I was not able to receive financial aid due to my parents having an income that was “too high” even though I live on my own and support myself as well as tuition and school materials. Medicaid impacted my life by me being a member of it for the first three years of my life. My mother and father were 17 when I was born, so they qualified for Medicaid. My major is Social Work, and my main areas of interest are foster children, missing persons, substance abuse victims, and domestic violence victims. A new policy that can benefit missing children is the 2024 Missing Child Program. With this program, U.S. Marshals services stated to support the national center for missing and exploited children’s mission to protect children from victimization by providing assistance to state, federal, and local law enforcement agencies.
The population that I would really enjoy to work with is children and young adults. I feel that there are so many youth out there that need help that they aren’t sure how to find or ask for. It is so important that we as a nation protect our youth, since they are the future of the nation. I plan to graduate in May of 2025 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. I am not sure which path I want to take, but I trust that I will be led in the direction I am meant to be a part of. My main career goal in doing Social Work is to be able to know that you made a positive difference in the life of another.
