BIBL 104 C. Module 6: Week 6 Thread: How to Study the Genres of the Bible 3-2-1 3 concepts that improved, clarified, or adjusted my knowledge from this week’s reading. In chapter 36, it talks about the first four gospels of the Bible in the New Testament. Each book is written by a different author Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Each of these is a record that describes Christ's life, ministry, death, and resurrection. I am not as familiar with the gospels as other books in the Bible, but it was improved my knowledge by learning that each book talks about life, ministry, death and resurrection. (Cartwright, Guiterrez, & Hulshof, p. 216). In chapter 36, about applying what you learn in the Bible and how to live it out as a Christian. The only way for me to live this out is for me to remember His word. I have to write out verses and study them in order for me to retain it and use it in everyday life. This also reminded me of my church saying which is “Love God, Love Others and Live it Out”. I found it crucial for me to remember to always apply the Bible and to follow that as a Christian because here lately I feel like I have been “too busy” to read and study scripture and that is not truly living it out as a Christian. (Cartwright, Guiterrez, & Hulshof, p. 219). The final chapter in the New Testament is Revelation. For some odd reason, I have always said relevation and I know now that is not correct. I have said this since I was a child and it’s like stuck in my brain, but I hope now that I have read this that I will never mispronounce this book. Revelation is important because it provides a picture of the last days of the world along with predicting the future though prophecy. Though Revelation also calls us to prepare and repent. (Cartwright, Guiterrez, & Hulshof, p. 234) 2 ideas that are crucial from this week’s reading . In chapter 38, it talks about cautions of when studying the Epistles. (Cartwright, Guiterrez, & Hulshof, p. 232). I found this crucial to remember when reading the Bible because sometimes I’m not paying attention to what is in the text. If we pay attention and stay focused then we can get a cleared picture of what God is saying to us. Interpretation and Correlation: I found this extremely crucial for me because sometimes I can get lost in the sight of context and misunderstand. Interpretation principles such as the grammatical- historical method, has been instrumental in gaining a deeper understanding of scripture. (Cartwright, Guiterrez, & Hulshof, p. 219). 1 way I can use what I have read. Page 1 of 2
BIBL 104 Learning to understand the various genres of the Bible. This would help me with interpretation. For example, I know that Pslams is a book of wisdom literature and that if I need something to help me with my day that I can flip to Psalms and can find wisdom. Page 2 of 2
