Ebonique,
Thank you for your insightful input regarding Special Education. I feel you and I have gained some of the same insights and growth throughout the course. Examples of these are individualized and specialized instruction, differentiation and collaboration and of course as Christian educators, integrating biblical insight into our classrooms. Creating inclusive classrooms and providing differentiation and/or modifications are essential in aiding our diverse learners and their ability to grow in the learning environment. Understanding that our students with varied needs require individualized and/or specialized instruction enable us as educators to provide the best scenario of education in order for these students to be successful academically. Learning is not a cookie cutter plan, different variations work for diverse learners, it is imperative we recognize this and adjust our teaching to meet these vast needs.
I am a collaborative teacher and whole heartedly believe this gives not only our special education students the benefit of two teachers in the classroom, it also encourages our general education students to work with peers that might not be in their learning circles. I feel collaboration benefits all that are involved, special ed students, gen ed students and teachers alike. I find inspiration through the Bible and Christian principles that I have been exposed to over the years. I believe these principles have taught me and preaches the importance of inclusion, people of all walks of life, all abilities/disabilities, race/ethnicities, etc. Christianity is being Jesus on earth, walking the walk and talking the talk. As educators, especially Christian educators, it is our duty to treat all people the same, with love and respect. Special education strives to do this in the classroom, special education teachers do this by showing love, care, attention and equality to all, regardless of any disability, any difference. God has a plan for all of His children, if each person is this important to God, they deserve the respect and equal treatment in all situations.
