EDUC 662 – Reply 1 of Discussion: Spiritual Development on College Campuses
I appreciate how you highlighted the transformative power of faith through
the scripture. Faith can indeed move mountains and make the impossible
come true through faith, belief, and trust in the almighty God (
New
International Version Bible
, 1973/2011, Matt. 17:20). Because Jesus said,
"What is impossible with man is possible with God" (
New International
Version Bible
, 1973/2011, Luke 18:27). Spiritual development is a crucial part
of maturing and is often related to religious rituals. According to Bowling
(2023), spiritual development theory may be utilized to explain and assist
the holistic development of worldwide students, whom Bowling calls
internationally mobile students. According to Bowling (2023), practitioners
may benefit from spiritual development theory by learning about their
students' different religious, spiritual, and secular identities, particularly
internationally mobile ones. Spirituality has been defined by King et al.
(2021) as the changes in individuals' beliefs and responses to their
understanding of divine power. They also point out that spiritual growth is
possible regardless of religious affiliation (King et al., 2021). In addition, they
claim that spiritual growth is a multi-step process involving new ways of
evaluating concepts, situations, experiences, values, and behaviors (King et
al., 2022).
In conclusion, spiritual growth is an essential part of the holistic development
of a human being, and this philosophy may help student affairs professionals
understand the nature of the student development process. Understanding
students' religious, spiritual, and secular identities, especially those who
have lived in different and various countries, has become more important in
light of recent studies of student development theory (Bowling, 2023).
