How can I exercise more faith in Christ? What would the Savior like me to do that will require faith in Him? What does it really mean to take upon me the name of Christ?
o
I can exercise more faith in Christ by first following His example and living my life based on His teachings. This is not an easy process and requires prayer, careful scripture study, and following His perfect example. While there are many ways to grow closer to Christ, these are some of the most important. If we maintain and grow our faith in Christ we can experience more and more of the blessings we are freely given through His sacrifice and the atonement, with the ultimate goal of becoming like Him. I know what He wants me to do that requires faith in Him is to live by His example, repent for my sins, and seek Him in all I do even if it requires suffering and I have to endure through it. Taking upon me the name of Christ means living like Him and for Him but it is more than just mimicking Him. It means following His teachings and relying on Him, placing my burdens on Him, and leaning on Him so we can grow closer and my faith can be strengthened.
What is repentance? What should I repent of? What blessings would be mine if I would identify by the Spirit something I should change and then followed through on the goal? How can I keep the desire I need to improve?
o
Repentance is the process of identifying, acknowledging, feeling a sense of sorrow or guilt for our sins, and seeking the Lord’s forgiveness. While we can repent for our sins against other people, the ultimate repentance comes before God when I seek His forgiveness and attempt to make up for my failures. I should repent for the sins I commit in this life, whether they be against others or times I fall short of the Lord’s righteousness. Repentance also involves a commitment to try and live a more righteous life from that point forward, seeking to be better and more like Him every day. However, repentance is not a one-time event. President Nelson tells us repentance is an ongoing process that takes a lifetime but leads to growth and the Lord’s blessings. If I identify needed changes and follow through on that goal, I will gain the blessing of being closer to Heavenly Father, the Lord’s forgiveness, and spiritual growth. While it may be difficult to find a desire to continuously improve, I can fuel that desire by knowing He suffered for me and will always be at my side, giving me that strength and reminding me of the blessings I will receive if I stick with it. I can
also dedicate time to prayer, scripture study, attending church, and serving others as President Nelson suggests. These keep us connected to God and a community that fosters a desire to improve.
Since I have already been baptized, is there something else I have seen the Savior do that I should also do in my life (serve, sacrifice, forgive, obey)? How can I make my baptismal covenant a powerful force in my life? Am I truly striving to follow Christ rather than myself?
o
Having been baptized, I can look to the Savior as the ultimate example of how I should live my life. I should follow His example by
serving others, obeying the Lord’s commandments, practicing forgiveness, and living my life for Him and others rather than myself. If we do these things, we are truly living up to the covenant we made with our baptism in our lifelong quest to not only follow Christ but to be more like Him. While I live my life based on service, as is evident by a career in law enforcement, I can continue to strive
for improvement in how I serve others outside of work and how I forgive those who may sin against me. I can also be more obedient to the Lord in how much I am dedicated to my church involvement, not making excuses for failing to meet expectations. If I can do these things, I can make my baptismal covenant more powerful and show my efforts in striving to follow Him.
How do I treasure the Gift of the Holy Ghost? How do I use the Gift of the Holy Ghost? How can I search for knowledge through the Holy Ghost? How
would my life change if I lived for the Spirit? What personal spiritual adventure should I be pursuing?
o
The Gift of the Holy Ghost is a blessing we receive at baptism. It provides us inspiration and guidance throughout our physical and spiritual lives. President Packer emphasized how important it was to
recognize what we receive from the Holy Ghost. If we are to truly treasure those gifts, we have to understand our callings, act in faith in all we do, and live righteous lives. To use the Gift of the Holy Ghost, we have to seek spiritual revelation. We do this through prayer, scripture study, and service. The Holy Ghost helps us better
embody Christ’s teachings in our lives and reveals to us a better understanding of His gospel principles. We can share our testimony, serve others, and share His words as we seek to enhance
the influence the Holy Ghost has in our lives. If I lived for the Spirit, my life would be more filled with peace, joy, spiritual growth, and hope. The spiritual adventure I should be pursuing is one that leads
