Psychology 201 Developmental Psychology NAME= Journal Entries 1-3 (The first set of journal entries 1-24) will be due at midterm (on or around March 5). We use journals entries as one means to introduce you to resources of which you might be unfamiliar. Please download each journal sheet that appears in D2L each week and keep a running file of all your entries. Using these journal sheets can make sure that you do not overlook any parts of an item. If you keep a continuous journal, you have only one document to upload into D2L!). I greatly appreciate this! 1. Do textbook reconnaissance (as shown in class) for Chapter 1. Pose and answer three questions about the content of this chapter. To live within both the spirit and letter of this assignment, please ask a question about beginning material (pages 3-14), material from the middle of the chapter (pages 15-30) and material closer to the end of the chapter (pages 31-42). 2. A. Review this website (which was working on January 16 th ): http://www.marchofdimes.com/baby/developmental-milestones-for-baby.aspx Read this page as it can provide broad information about developmental milestones for a full- term baby and for a baby who is born prematurely. The video is very good, too. So, if you are seeing a 6 month old baby born two months prematurely, which age would you use to determine if this child was reaching developmental milestones? Answer= B. Now, go to the main website for the March of Dimes. Try this site. https://www.marchofdimes.org/ When the page loads, checkout the overhead menu. Now, click on “Our Work.” When that page loads, click on “From Health Professionals.” When that page loads, scroll down to the section that is titled “Patient Education is Key to Improving the Health of Families.” There are 7 topics, each one of which is contained in a box. Choose one of these topics (you may need to choose two due to the number of sub-topics you find under each topic). Now, carefully choose three topics which provide information that you are curious about and that you have not covered extensively in other courses. 1. What did you learn that was new to you during your review of these website pages (sub- topics under a health promotion topic)?
2. Follow-up by describing the history of the March of Dimes. Cite your resource and keep your discussion to one short (10-15 lines) paragraph. 3. Now role play. You are a nurse, social worker, or healthcare manager working in an integrated-care pediatric practice. a. First: tell me what integrated-care practice means= b. The mother of a patient has lots of questions about development of her child. Design a conversation between you and this parent (use twelve exchanges, six from you, the healthcare practitioner or the person who is managing this program, and six from the parent) as you introduce the parent to the website (#2A, above) and show her how to make observations so that concerns can be brought to the attention of other healthcare professionals working in your practice or so this parent can begin to relax! Begin by imagining what might cause concerns for a parent. Mother: My nephew is the same age as my son. He is sitting up by himself. My son does not do that. I am worried. You: (I bet you ask or check the chart to get the age of the baby and other important health notes!):
