This amendment played a pivotal role in advancing civil rights and challenging segregation, setting the stage for later legal battles against racial discrimination. 3. Reconstruction Era Labor Changes: Reconstruction also witnessed significant changes in labor arrangements. C. The Progressive movement: 1. The Role of Religion and Social Morality: Progressive reforms were significantly influenced by religion and social morality. Many Progressives were guided by a sense of moral duty and social justice deeply rooted in their religious convictions. For instance, the Social Gospel movement emphasized the application of Christian ethics to address societal issues like poverty and inequality. This moral obligation inspired Progressives to actively work towards bettering society. 2.Reform Movements: The Progressive Era was defined by two major reform movements—the Women's Suffrage Movement and the Temperance Movement were pivotal social causes. The Women's Suffrage Movement championed women's voting rights, culminating in the 19th Amendment of 1920, which extended suffrage to women. In parallel, the Temperance Movement sought to curtail or eradicate alcohol consumption, ultimately leading to the era of Prohibition, as enshrined in the 18th Amendment.

These ambitions, encompassing economic, strategic, and media-driven factors, were central to the Spanish-American War. World War I: American imperialism also shaped the United States' entry into World War I. Initially maintaining a policy of neutrality, the U.S. had significant economic interests in Europe. American businesses had invested heavily in European markets, and safeguarding these investments became a paramount concern. The sinking of the Lusitania and the discovery of the Zimmermann Telegram served as catalysts for U.S. involvement, as they threatened American economic interests and revealed a German threat to the nation's security. By entering the war, the United States aimed to protect its economic investments and assert its influence on the global stage, marking another instance where American imperialism influenced its role in a major conflict.
