What does the difference between “government over
-
reach" and “responsible government” mean to you? The meaning of government overreach to me can refer to instances where the government exceeds their power to the point where individual's rights are being violated. A few examples of areas where people may believe there is an overreach are in recent abortion laws, gun ownerships and gun control, and since the covid pandemic, vaccine mandates has become a hot topic. When individuals begin to feel that the government is interfering with their personal life that’s when it’s believed the government is exceeding the power they already have. The framers of the constitution created the three branches of government to avoid one area holding too much power. The creation of our amendments and rights was so that we can live in a just union that protected our liberty and individual rights. A responsible government can refer to the government doing what’s best for the people. We elect officials who we believe will act in our best favor. These are the people who we expect to lead based on the concerns of the American people. A responsible government aims to build trust by showing that they have our best interest. “
Those who govern undertake special responsibilities, and their performance can be judged on the basis of the task they undertake.

When speaking on a responsible government, it is expected representatives to be both responsive and responsible though politicians may find it difficult to balance both. A government that shows that they are responsive can refer to what the people want and what they receive from that political party.
2
Therefore, in most situations, a politician may act on what is more responsible of them. Does the concept of “government over
-
reach” vs “responsible government” apply to one or more of the three primary public policy interest areas? I think that the concept of “government over
-
reach” can apply to the areas of public policy interests. Congress held a house hearing against former President Barack Obama claiming an executive over-reach in Domestic Affairs. The hearing claimed that the former President was creating programs that would give work permits to millions of illegal immigrants without a single vote from congress.
3
It was claimed in the hearing that Presidential abuse of power that takes place in domestic affairs are “grave threats” to the individuals Liberty protected by the constitution. Id. In social policy, there has been back lash against public officials overstepping boundaries when it comes to social media limiting certain speakers to voice their concerns and goals and social media platforms. 1
