Cost Benefit Analysis
The ACA (Affordable Care Act), formerly known as Obama care, is a law that was passed by former president Obama to provide more people with health insurance coverage. Once new legislators came into office they had to focus on money for the government and most importantly, what they can do to be
reelected. Cost-benefit analysis is a tool that is used to weigh out the cost and benefits (Center for Effective Government, 2015). Therefore, legislators had to use this tool to weigh out the political implications of repealing or replacing the ACA. If the ACA was repealed this would create a hardship for many people by causing them to lose their healthcare insurance. Not only would it cause many to lose their health insurance, but it would also cause a decline in employment because business would decline from people not having the extra money to spend at grocery stores and other businesses (Economic Policy Institute, n.d.). With this being said, I think that legislators are very aware that their stance on the ACA would greatly impact their reelection process. Analyses of the Voters Views
Analyses of voter’s views play a significant role in decision making for legislative leaders when recommending or positioning national policies. Policies proposing changes to national policies such as Medicaid and Medicare can impact the reelection that legislators seek. Voter’s view analysis allows legislative leaders to identify specific needs and will of their state and desired party (National Council for the Social Studies, n.d.). There are many times where legislators may face the challenge of balancing conflicting views and are able to seek a comprise or develop a policy that aims to address the needs of both sides. This approach helps to ensure that legislators are attentive to the needs and preferences of their people. References

First response to Heidi Peterson
Good evening, Heidi! Great job with your post. The cost-benefit analysis and voters views are two main things that legislators use during their campaign trail and seeking reelection. As you mentioned above, legislators to stay in office until their term ends or leave on their own terms. They do not like to be voted out. Persuading voters is a technique that many politicians use (The Library of Congress, n.d.). Legislators like to see what most of their voters would like to see happen within congress and that is what they use as part of their campaign to get reelected. If legislators repealed the ACA, then millions of Americans would be at risk for losing their healthcare insurance (The White House, 2023). This is where legislators must use the cost-benefit analysis and voters views of their party to see if they would stand with repealing it or not. If not, this could potentially cause them to lose in
reelection. References

Hello Mackenzie,
You done a great job on your post explaining how legislators used the cost-benefit analysis when
determining if the ACA should be replaced or not. If the ACA would have been replaced with the AHCA (American Health Care Act) then millions of Americans would have lost their insurance coverage and benefits (American Medical Association, n.d.). Therefore, I feel like if legislators would have continued with this act, then they would have potentially not been reelected. Although most Americans oppose of the ACA, they approve of many of the features it offers such as decreasing the cost of prescription drugs and eliminating co-pays (Dalen, etc., 2015). Legislators must do what the vast majority of their voters approve of and will vote for in order to be reelected. References
