Prep Questions: While someone is standing away from a water tower and holding up a 00 meters 2 ruler in front of them, if the tower is only tall, that means the water tower .5 meter 0 .05 meters 0 is really tall. Secondly, Joe holds a stick upright while standing a certain 0 meters 1 eter 2 − m distance away from Kathy. After she finds a displacement, it can be determined that she and 18 ° Joe are standing 6.16 meters apart using the equation . Finally, knowing that djacent A = Tan (θ) Opposite the distance from Earth to the Moon is and that that the diameter of the 84, 00, 00 meters 3 4 0 Moon is , the displacement of the moon in the sky was found to be . , 74, 00 meters 3 4 2 .52 0 ° Methodology: To find the height of the object that was chosen for this experiment, a table, a set distance from the table was first determined. After setting a distance from the table, a protractor was used to find the angle from the displacement from the bottom of the object to the top from the distance away. The protractor was used by putting it in front of the user’s face and moving the protractor’s arm until it aligned with the top of the object. Finally, after finding the angle displacement, the height of the object was then found using the equations given below. Data Analysis: After taking the necessary measurements, the set distance, , and the angle .52 meters 1 displacement, , were used to find the height of the object. The equation 30 °
was then used to solve for the height of the object by plugging in an (θ) djacent Opposite t * A = the distance and the angle displacement to get . an (30) .52 .878 meters t * 1 = 0 Conclusion: The height of the object was found to be given the calculations. Through .878 meters 0 doing further measurements, it was found that that is the exact height of the object. Caveats: To make this experiment easier or more accurate, using a meter stick or a better measuring device would have ensured more accurate results. It was difficult to get the tape measure completely straight which made it hard to know exactly how far away the protractor was from the object. In addition, if a meter stick was used, it may have made it easier to know the angle from the table to the floor as students could have used the meter stick to find the hypotenuse from the table to the floor. Overall, even without these changes being implemented, this was still an easy going, accurate experiment.
