Ethics are moral principles that determine right or wrong behaviors. Ethics
tends to refer to one’s moral beliefs and/or principles and how they govern conduct. I would define Morals as a set of standards by which one lives. They are different in that morals encourage a certain behavior for certain situations. Ethics, on the other hand, determine right and wrong behaviors. They are alike in that they both govern behaviors: Ethics
, govern by moral principles and
Morals
govern by standards. Five unethical practices:
1-
A principal at our elementary school fraternizes with one of the teachers outside of school. They attend movies together, go out to eat, and gossip about other teachers in their spare time. This teacher is given more academically gifted children in her classes, less challenging behaviors, and families that live in more affluent homes on her class roster. She even has less duties within the school schedule. 2-
In our elementary school one of the 2
nd
grade teachers was observed meeting up with one of her student’s fathers after school.
They would stay in her classroom with the door locked for a few hours a couple times a week. It was later to be found that the teacher was having an inappropriate relationship with the student’s father. Both parties were married, at the time. 3-
During spring testing several teachers were found to be filling in the
test bubbles for their children. They would have the children take the test in the test booklet, then they would bubble the answer sheets for them. If the student got an answer wrong, the teacher would ask them if they were sure about this answer. 4-
A teacher at the local high school would make inappropriate remarks to the female students. He would tell them that they could earn extra credit by helping him after school. 5-
A middle school teacher told one of his students that he was going to fail geometry unless he came to his tutoring class before school. He was charging a fee for each student in the session. Five immoral practices:
1-
At our local high school one of the teachers would use foul language
while teaching his class. He would yell at his students and curse at them for not understanding the material.

At our local elementary school, one of the PTO representatives was collecting monies for a Christmas gift for the classroom teacher of her child. When Christmas came around, she gave her some paper towels and used slippers. She had stolen the money given her and not bought the gift, for which she had collected the funds. 3-
One assistant at our local elementary school would leave every day for lunch. She never signed out, asked permission, or reported it on her time card, but would drive home for lunch and come back thirty minutes later smelling of alcohol. 4-
Each year we are given training videos and assessments to complete individually, as part of our continuing education. A few of the teachers would get together and write down all the answers to the quizzes. They would then pass them around to those of whom didn’t want to watch the training videos. 5-
At our elementary school, many years ago, we had a volunteer that requested to read to our kindergarten classes. He told the teachers that they should take a break while he was reading to the children and go do anything they needed done. He was extremely imperious
in his requests. Fortunately, no teacher left him unattended with the
children. He was later arrested for child molestation.
