Target 1
My weakest area from the mock exam was Philosophical Underpinnings. My overall
score of the section was 25%. I decided to annotate Chapter 1; Definition and Characteristics of
Applied Behavior Analysis of the Copper textbook. This chapter focused on various theories
used in the field. I focused on how to differentiate between the philosophical assumptions
explaining the science of behavior. Determinism is the assumption that everything happens for a
reason. Empiricism emphasizes data meaning the behavior has to be observable and measurable.
Parsimony requires simple explanations to be ruled out before acting on complex explanations.
Pragmatism focuses on interventions that are efficient for achieving desirable outcomes.
