People with honor are known to be reliable, having an ethical direction and believes in being
held accountable for their actions, without honor they have no moral compass to lead them on an
ethical path.
Honor helps defines you as a person, a person who can be trusted in their words and
actions and makes good decisions.
Honor seems to be a lost virtue these days, politicians are seen as
untrustworthy having no honor, lacking in making good decisions, unethical and not doing their duty for
the people, seen as a corrupt government sweeping their misconduct under the rug.
Many of the
American people believe the government has forgotten that it was designed to serve the needs and
protect the interest of the American people
.
Ethical behavior increases workforce effectiveness,
improves morale, and promotes better public relations.
A person in public administration has a moral
obligation to the people they serve, they must have a sense of right and wrong and apply the ethical
reasoning to social problems, follow codes of conduct, and follow the organization guidelines and
principles.
(Milkovich, Gordon 2018) In Biblical / ancient times honor was a very important
characteristic in a person, especially if they were involved or wanted to be involved in public, they had to
be trustworthy.
An honorable Christian does what is right and in doing so we are honoring God in all we
do and being an example to others.
Honor is also about respect and love; we want people to be honest
with us and do the right thing so we must treat them as we want to be treated.
Jesus said, “Therefore all
things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and
the prophets” Matthew 7:12 KJV.
Organizational theory began in the late nineteenth century but has some characteristics that was
used in the ancient military structure and since that time, it has evolved into multiple theories.
Late
nineteenth century Max Weber’s government bureaucracy theory based on legal and rational authority.
Fredrick Taylor’s “scientific management”, early 1900s, designed to benefit the organization and ignore
the worker.
Herbert A. Simon with his “bounded rationality” there are limits on the decision-making
abilities of individuals in the organization.
Leonard D. White influenced by Fredrick Taylor, asserted that
the best operation method could be found by studying procedures in management scientifically.
Modern organization theory focuses on different departments working on projects together not
separate.
(Milkovich, Gordon 2018) Organizational theory is not mentioned in the Bible but it does give
leaders a model for “Organizational Values”.
“God has showed you, O man, what is good. And what
does the Lord require of you?
To act justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” Micah
6:8 NIV, Al Lopus writes that this verse can be applied by leaders today. (Lopus, 2021)
