3.
Explanation of
Key Events and
Scriptures
Demonstrate your comprehension of fundamental truths of the restored gospel of Jesus
Christ, and your ability to use the scriptures to teach them. Be sure to include specific
scripture references from the assigned readings
Scenario: Imagine you have been asked by a family member or friend to share what you
believe about the truths and events you studied this week. Share in your own words several
insights as though you are really trying to teach someone. Include at least three scripture
references to support the truths you teach (you may reference them, but there is no need to
quote them). Share your testimony as you would when teaching someone.
Your response will be evaluated by the following criteria:

200–300 words in length
(please include your word count at the botom of the
section).
2.
Include at least 3 scripture references
.
Response:
-
I was thinking a lot about what is mentioned in
Moses 4:6
when it talks about Satan not knowing the mind of
God, when it says “knew not” in the scripture, the footnote of
John 16:1-3
mentions not knowing the Father
or Christ. I think to be in line with God and His plan for us, we have to submit to his will, judgement, and
guidance and work on our relationship to truly “know him”. I will say that looking back, my life went
smoother, and I was able to feel God’s love and blessings for me when I followed Him and his plan for me,
even if I don’t exactly know what I’m doing, I can trust in God and know that I will be forgiven if I trespass.
-
In
Moses 6:56-57
, it mentions agency. And what a gift it is! We are freer when we align ourselves with Christ,
even though that is not what the world says. I know the difference of living with and without Christ’s
influence in my life and it is black and white. I was happier, the world seemed brighter, and more importantly,
I knew that I was forgiven. God gives us trials and opportunities to see what the opposite of his love, warmth,
and good is. And knowing that he gives us opportunities to excel and further our knowledge and relationship
with Him? That just makes me want to us my Agency is the way that it was intended, but to use it to stay
close to Him.

4. Synthesis:
Personal
Relevance and
Application to
the Real World
There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous
power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and
concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that
week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you
have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental
truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think
these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging
with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your
response.
5.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
Racial Strife/Hatred
Response:
In the world today, racial strife and hatred are everywhere, and becoming so deep rooted in everything
that it gets scary sometimes, or a lot of the time for me personally. But then I think of how these things affect me,
and how I treat others who talk about these issues in a certain way. The biggest way that Jesus Christ taught was by
example. Actions speak louder than words and I am a true believer in that. There are only so many comments you
can post in reply to people accusing of a certain race or person for something that they felt atacked or hurt by.
Words sometimes make it worse. Before looking at others and thinking about what they could do to change, think
about yourself first. Before you go trying to be a social media “vigilante” try thinking about what Jesus would do. He
said to love one another, and that applies to EVERYONE. Now, you may not like someone, but everyone deserves to
have the simple respect given to them because they are a fellow Child of God.
This may not seem to always work though, there are only so many things we can post, comment, say, to try to help
things calm down. But in the end, we need to let others deal with their transgressions in their own way. They have
their agency, and we have ours. Being an example, loving others first, trying to be like Jesus, and avoiding situations
that we can get trapped in will help us bring others closer to Him, or at least try to diminish the hatred and tension
that is so prevalent in this world. It hurts sometimes to be called certain names or slurs by other ethnicities just
because I happen to be white, that literally isn’t something I can control, the color of my skin nor what others say
about me. But I can choose, I have the agency to respond in any way. Choose to be a peacemaker, choose to love
others.
