Why Abortion Should be Legal
Abortion is the termination of pregnancy by removing a fetus or Embryo. Women
should be given the right to terminate pregnancies. Criminalizing abortion negatively affect
the access to safe abortion which can complicate pregnancies and lead to further medical
complications or even death. Illegalizing abortion takes women rights away; thus. legalizing
abortion will give women the right to make informed decisions regarding their lives, reduce
the number of unwanted children, and promote their rights in the healthcare system.
Abortion is an essential healthcare and human right. As such, legalizing abortion can
boost physical and emotional health in women's life. Illegalizing abortion jeopardizes
women's physical and mental health as it takes away their agency and autonomy (
Pizzarossa
& Skuster, 2021)
. Abortion may pose a threat to women's health and life; hence, having the
right to terminate pregnancy can help to protect women’s lives.
Legalizing abortion can reduce the number of unwanted children. Pregnancy can be a
burden, and parenthood are a lifelong commitment that requires great sacrifice. Illegalizing
abortion can result in unwanted or neglected children, which burden society. Moreover, there
is need to legalize abortion to benefit society as a whole.
Legalizing abortion can reduce or eliminate the need for illegal abortions. When laws
restrict women from abortion, they may resort to unsafe and dangerous practices to terminate
their pregnancies (
Faundes
et al., 2020)
. Therefore, legalizing abortion will promote women’s
access to safe abortion procedures.
Abortion should be legalized to reduce the danger of illegal abortions, reduce the
number of unwanted children, as well as promote essential human rights in the healthcare
system as women will be able to make informed decisions about their personal lives.
