2 What drew you to the field of education? Let's face it, very few people these days desire to pursue careers in teaching. Perhaps it has to do with the compensation being offered to teachers, the children, or even the work overload caused by the shortage of staffing. Education is a sector that is misunderstood and is quickly changing, especially today. I come from a long history of educators; both of my grandparents were educators, and my father was an educator.  I know firsthand the many challenges educators face when entering the world of teaching including long, unpaid hours and everyday interactions with children. Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted to change the world. I love helping people and being able to make a difference in the lives of others is the best part of what I do. Growing up I use to play school with my siblings and the children in the neighborhood I can remember always wanting to play the role of the teacher. How do you define teaching? I would define teaching as “An unforgettable moment meant to help one gain understanding and knowledge.” We all interpret events based on our prior knowledge. This is also true when it comes to learning and teaching our conceptions of what it entails come from our experiences in the past. Teaching to me means devoting your life to making a difference every day just by helping others. It takes one person to be a light in someone’s life. Being a teacher is a hard job but the thought of being able to help just one person changes everything for me. 2
