2 Topic 8 DQ 2 A successful evidence-based practice (EBP) implementation is premised on the need to understand and interpret the outcomes. This gives a reason for understanding the difference between clinical significance and statistical significance, as they constitute critical elements for assessing the importance of the EBP. Clinical significance explains the benefits accompanying an intervention. Since it entails a subjective interpretation of the findings, clinically significant results are believed to occur when experts consider them substantial enough to conclude that they are medically crucial. On the other hand, statistical significance entails using data to account for its importance. Sharma (2021) noted that their main difference is that while clinical significance is an observation of dissimilarity between two groups, statistical significance determines whether a mathematical significance exists in the obtained results. Statistical significance is also a tool for testing a hypothesis, whereby decision-making is guided by predetermined probability levels (Carpenter et al., 2021). This implies that these concepts are substantially different, making their utilization during EBP implementation crucial. Besides, they are both critical as they may complement each other during decision-making regarding an EBP adoption. In EBP research, statistical significance is determined first before its clinical value is ascertained. However, since clinical significance entails a subjective evaluation of an intervention, multiple experiential tests must be performed to reach informed conclusions. With this knowledge, I will use clinical significance in supporting positive patient outcomes ensuring that the results are statistically significant. This is premised on the idea that most statistically significant findings depict clinical importance. Therefore, showing that the results of the data collected are statistically substantial could be clinical significance in the proposed EBP.
