To sustain the two-nurse vaccine administration quality improvement, it's important to reiterate to them the success factors that have happened along with the improvement measures and educate them with key metrics that support these improvements with a two-nurse team. Transparency is critical when tracking progress toward a goal. Nurses need to know what’s happening as well as how and why it is happening ([Getting Results] 5 Keys to Sustainable Performance Improvement, 2019). One initiative that could be incorporated before summer starts is communicating to the nursing staff how well the quality improvement change has impacted the organization. Providing praise, positive feedback on performance and letting them know the importance of this quality change could spark interest in wanting to keep up with the two-nurse protocol. If the CFO reached out and asked for my opinion, I would respectfully and professionally provide him with high-quality facing data to indicate that the quality improvement initiative has been working, and reducing staff during the summer would only hurt the organization. Given it is already difficult to find staff during the summer hours, it will only make it more difficult to successfully implement the initiative we have already started and medication errors could increase.
