Nowadays, society faces a broad dilemma that empowers individuals with the right to end or prolong their lives on this earth. Proponents of legislation across the United States to authorize patients' decisions to receive physician assistance to die continue increasing over the decades. Many law practitioners face a dilemma when assisting individuals with legal documents about the choice of discontinuing their lives. It is critical to understand the different factors that come into play when a person decides to end their life. In most cases, the leading proponents are older people or critically ill individuals with uncurable diseases that cause them pain, suffering, and agony. However, more people have recently misinterpreted the so-called Physician Assisted Suicide, which allows providers to assist their patients in lawfully ending their lives. Emmanuel Ezekiel, Whose Right to Die? , 279, No. 3, 73-21 (1997). For instance, people with the least critical diseases, such as psychological issues, disorders, and controllable illnesses, often request their providers to perform medical practice to discontinue their lives. The confusion physician-assisted suicide practices have created in society to think everybody should be allowed to exercise their decision to end their lives when originally proposed only to seriously ill individuals with terminal diseases. The United Constitution encourages individuals to exercise their freedom. However, it is also essential to remember that the Constitution is based on God's teaching. Promoting a patient's self-suicide contradicts God's Teaching, as the Lord is the only one allowed to give or take people's lives. The Holy Bible teaches us, Matthew 11: 28-3, 28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." International New Version , https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/ ? search=Matthew+11%3A+28-30&version=NIV (2011). Therefore, our country requires legislation to abolish laws or initiatives that promote physician-assisted suicide as a practice in today's medicine. There are many alternatives to attempt a positive impact on the well-being of individuals, considering the advancement in technology and medicine. Id p. 79 . While proponents of the right-to-die decision argue that providers have a moral obligation to their patients and justify their actions, proposing such an alternative to patients is not morally wrong. Arthur Dyck, Overlooked Cost of Legalizing Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia , 36, No. 2, Ethics & Medicine, 120, 117-125, (2020). Indeed, there is much to do to propose rather than expedited and quick solutions. Law practitioners are more involved in topics involving individuals attempting to produce documents proposing life-ending assistance. For instance, people request attorneys to aid in preparing the Advance directory, powers of attorney, and living wills presenting a person's choice to give their doctor authority to decide when a person's life should continue or get discontinued from medical care. Sarah Hooper, Charles Sabatino & Rebecca Sudore, Improving Medical-legal Advance Care Planning , 60, No. 2, Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, 490, 487-494 (2020). While every lawyer is free to accept or deny such a request. It becomes essential that attorneys exercise their humanly moral characteristics to empathize with an ill client and propose possible solutions implementing God's teaching.
