The medicine hat food bank and district has been opened since 1992, that’s 25 years that this

The Medicine Hat and District Food Bank Association believes that hunger
exists in the community and that everyone has a responsibility to address this
food insecurity in a manner ensuring the availability, accessibility and
adequacy of food to the people in need.

Slide 5 facts – malnutrition
(Problem and Cause)
Children deserve to have access to food in order to be productive, complete school tasks, and to
feel secure without their tummies rumbling. Without food, children carry the burden of
malnutrition, don’t develop fully, and it can cause long-term negative effects for that child’s life.
There will be about 300 million stunted children if current trends continue.

Slide 6 mission
The main mission is reducing, coping with, and ending hunger in and around Medicine Hat,
Alberta.
The Medicine Hat & District Food Bank works collaboratively in the community
of Medicine Hat and Surrounding area to ensure an adequate and accessible
food support system is available to individuals and families in need. This is
achieved through support in: Emerging Crisis, Security, and Sustainability.
Emergency Crisis is to provide food to individuals and families in a life
crisis or in need of temporary assistance
Security: is offering innovative food support programs to clients that are
focused on skill development, coaching and mentorship to help
empower positive change and improvement in their lives
Sustainability is the Innovative programming and leadership to
proactively address hunger and food needs in the community
Slide 7 vision
Vision Statement
The Medicine Hat & District Food Bank is the trusted source in the
community of Medicine Hat and surrounding area for food related
resources, innovative programs and collaborative approaches to food
security and stability
The Food Bank has been around for 25 years and it has proven ineffective in ending the
vicious cycle between hunger and poverty. The drive and passion to fix this issue is
increasing with the innovative idea of developing a Food Center. This is a way to
additionally offer educational classes, social enterprise vendors, and so much more to
children and families in dire need. This is the next step into the future to sustainably end
poverty and increase wellbeing.
Slide 8 Food center
5% of people in medicine hat are considered chronic users of the food bank.
This means they access the foodbank on a monthly basis
The future Community Food Centre will be a physical building that makes all community
members feel welcome. It will provide various programs and activities for all ages such
as educational classes and social enterprise vendors
It is an inclusive space that uses food as an opportunity to bring people together and
build a thriving community. Most importantly, Community Food Centers are the next step
in the evolutions of strong and sustainable cities.
We are working together to end poverty in Medicine Hat by 2030.

In order to make a difference, we rely on the support of generous individuals, businesses,
and sponsors in our community. The children, their families, and Us would be extremely
grateful if you would consider donating 250 000 to our worthy cause in ending hunger.
$200 a year is enough to provide one child with a weekly take home lunch for 52 weeks.
Can you image what 250,000 would accomplish?
Please help us develop the food center and end the vicious cycle between hunger and
poverty for our family, friends, and neighbours
By the year 2030, we will sustainably end hunger in and around Medcine Hat and
hopefully continue to expand to other areas until our world is fed with your contributions
